Tigers outfielder begins rehab assignment

Detroit Tigers outfielder Andy Dirks will begin his rehab back to the Motor City tonight with the Tigers Single–A affiliate in Lakeland, Fla.  Dirks, who has been a platoon outfielder for the Tigers in the past, underwent back surgery in March.

It was first thought that he would be ready to go before the MLB All–Star break. Dirks has a career .278 batting average to go along with 17 home runs and 83 rbis.
