Three children die in Menominee County accident

DAGGETT TOWNSHIP — Three children were pronounced dead at the scene following a two-vehicle collision in Dagget Township Monday evening.

Menominee County Sheriff’s deputies say the incident occurred at 6 p.m. on US-41 between Belgiumtown Road and County Road 358. Susan Meade, 40, was driving her minivan when she lost control of the vehicle on the poor road conditions. Police say she ended up in the path of a semi truck, which struck the van on the side.

Meade’s children: Michael McCue, 14; Maxwell McCue, 12; and Joelle McCue, 11, were killed in the collision.

Meade was transported to Bay Area Medical Center by ambulance and later transferred to Green Bay SVH for evaluation and treatment of multiple traumatic injuries. The driver of the semi was unhurt.

Police, with assistance from the Menominee County Road Commission, closed off US-41 for six hours while investigating the crash. Deputies had cars detour on CR 358/Old US-41 through Daggett and Belgiumtown Road back to US-41. Roads were ice- and snow-covered before and after the crash.

The crash remains under investigation, with assistance from Accident Investigators from the Michigan State Police.

Menominee County Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by Mid-County Rescue Squad, Mid-County Rescue Extrication Unit, Bay Area Medical Center Paramedics, Daggett Township Volunteer Fire Department, MDNR Conservation Officers, Menominee County Victim Services Unit, Menominee County Chaplain Corps and Menominee County Medical Examiner Team.
