Three car accident in Ishpeming

Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injures after an accident in Marquette County Thursday afternoon.

The Ishpeming Police Department says the accident happened at 2:35 at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Lakeshore Drive.

Three vehicles were involved.  A 17-year-old Ishpeming man was driving a silver 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier westbound on U.S. 41 when he was hit by a black Ford Explorer that failed to stop at a red light driving northbound on Lakeshore Drive.  The Explorer was driven by a 23-year-old Ishpeming woman.

The Cavalier was pushed out of control and struck a 2006 Buick Rendezvous, driven by a 56-year-old Champion, that was stopped at the right light at the intersection.  The Cavalier and Explorer were towed from the scene.

Two people who were injured were taken to Bell Memorial Hospital; one of the two injured suffered a serious injury, but is not considered life threatening.

The driver of the Ford Explorer was cited for disregarding a red light.

The Ishpeming City Police Department was assisted by the Ishpeming Fire Department, Bell Hospital EMS and the Ishpeming Township Fire Department.
