This is National Farmers Market Week

United States Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack proclaimed August 5-11, 2012 as National Farmers Market Week.  The Manistique Farmers’ Market will be celebrating on Wednesday from 4-6pm at Little Bear West Arena in Manistique.

“Shoppers will have opportunities to win prizes of fresh produce and
cottage foods at farmer booths throughout our market”, said Manistique
Market Master, Kerry Ott. “The Manistique Farmers’ Market is a food
and farm market only, so our customers know they will always find
fresh locally grown and produced foods at the market. Farmers’ Market
week is the perfect time to thank our farmers and our customers for
making the Manistique Farmers’ Market an amazing success.”

The Manistique Farmers’ Market began in 2010 as part of a partnership
between the City of Manistique and the Sault Tribe Strategic Alliance
for Health project. Now in it’s third season, the market has 16
farmers from Schoolcraft and Delta Counties.  It will be open every
Wednesday from 4-6pm through October 31st.

The market is also a recipient of the USDA Farmers’ Market Promotion Program grant, which is being used to create a system that will ensure the market is sustainable for many years to come.
