HOUGHTON — The name of a Houghton County Jail inmate who passed away this weekend has been released.

Houghton County Sheriff Brian McLean says James Silvola, 38, was arrested on Saturday for first degree retail fraud and was unable to post bond. At approximately 9:15 that night, the Houghton County Correctional Staff found Silvola experiencing unknown medical issues.

The staff administered life saving measures and had him transported to UP Health System – Portage. He later died at UP Health System – Marquette where he was transferred, although the reason for that transfer is still unknown. The Houghton County Correctional Staff found Silvola during routine cell checks.
