Teenager dies from car accident injuries
A young Houghton County woman has died from injuries she suffered in a car accident in Baraga County earlier this week.
The Baraga County Sheriff’s Department says she was 19-year-old Brittany Nicholas of South Range.
The accident happened at about 10:30 Tuesday morning on US-41 in L’Anse Township, about three miles south of L’Anse. Police say Nicholas was driving north when she lost control of her vehicle on the snowy, icy road. She crossed the center line and was hit by a vehicle driven by 64-year-old Diane Risku of Watton.
Both drivers were taken to Baraga County Memorial Hospital. Risku was released after being treated there, but Nicholas was transferred to Marquette General and died on Wednesday.
The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Tribal Police, Bay Ambulance and the L’Anse Fire and Rescue Jaws of Life unit assisted sheriff’s deputies at the scene.
