MADISON, Wis. — Michigan Tech forward Reid Sturos, whose five scoring points and first collegiate hat trick helped propel the Huskies to a home-and-home conference series sweep over Northern Michigan last weekend, has been named the WCHA Men’s Rookie of the Week for Feb. 25, 2014. He has now won the award three times this season.

A 6-2, 185-pound freshman right winger from Brighton, Mich., Sturos scored four goals and posted five points in the two victories, put seven shots on goal and earned a +2 plus/minus rating as Michigan Tech moved into sole possession of third place in the WCHA race.

Sturos notched his first career three-goal hat trick last Friday (Feb. 21) night as the Huskies opened the series with a 7-4 win over the Wildcats at John MacInnes Student Ice Arena in Houghton. He had two goals in the second period and another in the third to double his season goal total from three to six. He also assisted on teammate Shane Hanna’s third period game-winner.

Sturos then finished the weekend by scoring the game-opening goal last Saturday (Feb. 22) against NMU at the Berry Events Center in Marquette, as Michigan Tech went on to win again, 3-2.

In just 26 games played this season, Sturos is fifth in scoring for Tech with 20 points (7g, 13a). He also has 16 points (7g, 9a) in his last 10 games.
