AUSTIN, Texas — Former Michigan Tech goaltender Josh Robinson (Frankenmuth, Mich.) has agreed to a professional hockey contract with the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League.

The deal is a two-way contract, meaning Robinson could play for Texas or the Boise Steelheads of the East Coast Hockey League.

Robinson was named the Huskies’ Merv Youngs Award winner as the team most valuable player this past season after compiling a 2.83 goals against average and .909 saves percentage. The netminder posted a 15-14-4 record in 34 starts and finished as the winningest Tech goalie since Jamie Ram (16) in 1992-93.

The two-time WCHA All-Academic Team graduated from Michigan Tech with a 3.06 grade point average this past April. He earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing with a minor in coaching.

Robinson will take part in the Dallas Stars NHL rookie camp July 5-11, then report to AHL training camp in September.

“I’m looking forward to continuing my hockey career and seeing where I can go,” said Robinson. “I think playing college hockey at Michigan Tech has prepared me well, now I have to continue to train and be ready to go and prove myself in Texas.”

Robinson is the second player from last year’s Tech senior class to turn pro. Jordan Baker (Chestermere, Alb.) played for the Colorado Eagles of the ECHL this past spring after Michigan Tech’s season ended at the WCHA Final Five.
