Tech’s hot start validated by national ranking

HOUGHTON, Mich. – For the first time since November 2011, the Michigan Tech hockey team is ranked in the USCHO.com Top 20 Poll. The 4-0 Huskies enter the poll at No. 17 and host No. 15 Michigan at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena this weekend.

Tech swept Ferris State last weekend in Big Rapids with a 1-0 win Friday and a 2-1 win Saturday. The Huskies swept Lake Superior State on the opening weekend of hockey Oct. 4-5. Tech is one of five unbeaten teams in college hockey.

The Wolverines are making their first appearance in Houghton since 1983 and are 2-3-0 on the season.

Tech will also be hosting the Stanley Cup Friday. Fans with a ticket to either Friday or Saturday’s game will be able to view the trophy along with the Hart Trophy, Conn Smythe Trophy, MacNaughton Cup and Gibson Cup.
