Tech XC season ends in NCAA Regionals

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Michigan Tech cross country season concluded Saturday
(Nov. 3) at the NCAA Midwest Regional hosted by UW-Parkside.

Head coach Joe Haggenmiller was impressed with the performances of many of
the runners.

Eric Parsell was the top finisher for the men’s team crossing the line 67th
in a time of 32:40 over the 10-kilometer course.

All five of Tech’s scoring runners finished in the top-100. Bradon Kampstra
finished 79th in 32:58. Kyle Hanson was 82nd (33:03), followed by Jonathan
Kilpela in 85th (33:07) and Karl Koivisto 89th (33:13).

Other finishers for the Huskies included Matt Dugan 109th (33:46) and
Calvin Nitz 123rd (34:15).

“The men ran really well today, averaging 33 minutes as a team over a tough
course,” said Haggenmiller. “It was nice to see Jon and Karl finish their
careers with such great performances.”

The men’s team finished 13th of 34 teams.

Amanda Halonen led the women’s team with a 52nd place finish in a time of
22:48 over the six-kilometer course.

She was followed by Megan Smaby in 111th (23:46) and Lynn Duijndam in 128th
(24:19). Amber Peabody was 134th (24:38), and Nichole Wehner completed the
scoring for the Huskies finishing 140th (25:03).

“Amanda ran a strong race today,” said Haggenmiller. “We ran well, but the
competition was very tough today.”

The women finished 20th of 35 teams.

Matt Booker of Cedarville won the men’s race in 30:35, and Allyson
Winchester of Grand Valley won the women’s race in 20:57. Grand Valley won
both team titles.
