ALLENDALE, Mich. – Grand Valley finished with a 44-26 advantage in kills in a 3-0 win (25-22, 25-15, 25-15) over the Michigan Tech volleyball team Saturday (Oct. 27).

“Today was somewhat better overall compared to last night, but unfortunately, we struggled in many of the same areas, important areas,” said head coach Matt Jennings. “Our lack of execution on the left pin really hurt us this weekend in both matches. It put too much pressure on the other elements of our offense. I’m confident in our outside’s
abilities, and am looking forward to them getting back in their groove.

“Our blocking continues to give teams too many easy scoring opportunities. Jackie and Maddie’s backcourt defense has made us able to extend plays despite this, but against a good team like Grand Valley, it becomes unsustainable as the match goes on.”

The Lakers finished with 16 blocks (two solo) compared to five (one solo) by the Huskies.

“What’s nice to see is the way Sylvie, Jackie, and Maddie have continued to play with confidence and poise,” said Jennings. “Kienna had a great match today as well, which is a great sign. She adds a great deal to our attack.”

Sylvie Rokosh<http://www.michigantechhuskies.com/sports/wvball/2012-13 /bios/SylvieRokosh>tallied 10 kills to lead the team for the third straight match, and Jacqueline Aird<http://www.michigantechhuskies.com/sports/wvball/2012-13/bios/JacquelineAird>tallied a match-high 13 digs. Madeline Haben<http://www.michigantechhuskies.com/sports/wvball/2012-13/bios/haben%20madeline00.html>recorded a double-double with 21 assists and 10 digs. Kienna Sharp<http://www.michigantechhuskies.com/sports/wvball/2012-13/bios/sharp%20kienna00.html>finished with six kills and hit a team-high .333.

“We knew this road trip was going to be tough. There’s no doubt we made it tougher on ourselves, which is what we need to fix going into the final two weeks of the regular season. I’m glad we are at home for it, and I’m optimistic we’ll be ready for Northern. It’s my responsibility to prepare them to be.”

Tech will host Northern Michigan Tuesday (Oct. 30).
