Tech football moves up in NCAA Rankings
HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech football jumped up three spots to No. 3 in this week’s NCAA Super Region Four rankings. The rankings are used to determine the participants in the NCAA Division II Football Playoffs.
The Huskies were No. 6 in the region last week and defeated the region’s No. 7 team Ashland 28-12 last Saturday (Nov. 8). Despite every team in the top six of the region winning last Saturday, the rankings look very different.
Ferris State (10-0) retained the top spot. Colorado State-Pueblo moved up two spots to No. 2. Tech moved up three spots to No. 3. Ohio Dominican slipped two spots to No. 4. Colorado Mines and Indianapolis both moved down one spot to No. 5 and 6, respectively.
Six teams from Super Region Four will earn spots in the NCAA Playoffs. There are four different conferences represented in the super region, and a conference is guaranteed a spot in the playoffs through earned access if it has a team ranked in the region’s top eight. The top two teams in the region will get first-round byes. The No. 3 team in the region will host the No. 6 seed while the No. 4 will host the No. 5.
Michigan Tech (8-1) wraps up its regular season at home vs. Lake Erie on Saturday (Nov. 15) at 1 p.m.
The announcement of the field for the 2014 NCAA Division II Football Playoffs will be made Sunday (Nov. 16) at 5 p.m.
