Tech defeats Finlandia in Mens Coll. B-Ball

HOUGHTON, Mich. – GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year Ali Haidar <> scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Michigan Tech men’s basketball team to a 117-53 win over local foe Finlandia Wednesday (Nov. 7). The 64
point margin of victory was the largest ever against Finlandia.

“The biggest thing I felt after the game was that we stayed within ourselves even when we had a large lead,” said head coach Kevin Luke. “We were able to get plenty of playing time for our 7-12 guys.”

Freshman Kyle Stankowski<> poured in 17 points shooting 7-of-11 from the field and made all three free throws.

Sophomore Phil Romback<> (14), junior Austin Armga <> (11), and senior Matt Esters <> (10) all finished in double figures for the Huskies. All 13 players in the line-up scored for Tech.

The Huskies used a balanced game outscoring the Lions 60-30 in the first half and 57-23 in the second. Tech cleaned up the glass 46-21 and out shot FU 55-percent to 31-percent.

Junior Ben Coleman was the lone Lion in double figures finishing with 13.

Tech will open the regular season at Southwest Minnesota State Thursday
(Nov. 15).
