Five U.P. county treasurers put about three dozen tax–foreclosed real estate pieces on the auction block today.

The Michigan Public Land Auction included residential structures, vacant land and other properties like the former National Mine School.

The properties were in Alger, Marquette, Delta, Schoolcraft and Chippewa counties.

The sale is important to neighboring property owners and to the bottom lines of the counties’ tax collections.

Marquette County Treasurer Anne Giroux says a sale earlier this year brought the county somewhere between $40,000 and $50,000.

Another sale will take place tomorrow for parcels in Baraga, Houghton, Gogebic and Ontonagon counties.

That sale starts at noon tomorrow Central time at the Lac Vieux Desert Resort and Casino in Watersmeet.

Registration begins at 11:30.
