Swimmer Shootings Trial Starts with 1st Witness

The Menominee River swimmer shootings trial still won’t start in earnest until mid-March.

But the first witness in Scott Johnson’s murder trial has already taken the stand.

A man who came upon the scene shortly after the shootings happened 6 months ago has testified behind closed doors.

He’s in the military, and he’s scheduled to be deployed to Iraq by the time the rest of the trial in Marinette gets underway.

Scott Johnson is accused of shooting from the East Kingsford train bridge into a group of young people who were swimming in the river below.

3 teenagers died — Anthony Spigarelli, Tiffany Pohlson and Bryan Mort.

A 20-year-old was also wounded in the attack.

Johnson recently dropped an insanity plea that he’d made earlier.
