Swimmer Shooter Pleads No Contest

The Breitung Township man accused of last summer’s swimmer shootings will get his sentence May 21st.

38-year-old Scott Johnson changed his plea in the case late yesterday to no contest.

It covers 3 counts of 1st-degree intentional homicide, 6 counts of attempted 1st-degree intentional homicide with a dangerous weapon and 1 count of sexual assault.

He sexually assaulted a Kingsford woman on July 30th.

Then, the next day, he shot from the East Kingsford Train Bridge into a group of young people swimming in the Menominee River below.

3 teenagers died, and 1 20-year-old was wounded.

Johnson will be sentenced to life in prison.

The only thing left at issue in May is whether or not he might ever be paroled.
