Negaunee — Michigan State Police are investigating a one vehicle rollover crash that happened about 1:30 Saturday afternoon on U.S. 41 just east Midway Dr. near the Midway Industrial Park driveway in Negaunee Township.

52-year-old Lige Johnson of Negaunee was driving his 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer west on U.S. 41 when his vehicle drifted into the paved median, according to a Michigan State Police news release issued today.

Johnson “over-corrected the steering” while trying to regain control of his SUV and it crossed both westbound lanes of U.S. 41, crashed into a ditch and overturned, “leaving  Johnson trapped inside,” MSP said.

He was extricated by the Marquette County Rescue Squad Unit #131. Assisting on scene of the crash were Michigan State Police, the Negaunee Township Volunteer Fire Department and EMS paramedics with U.P. Health Systems Marquette paramedics.

Johnson was transported by ambulance with non life-threatening injuries to U.P. Health Systems Marquette (formerly Marquette General Hospital), MSP said.

Johnson is “considered to be at fault” in the crash, however the accident remains under investigation. Johnson was the only occupant of the vehicle and police say he was wearing his seat belt.
