Suspect Arrested in Fatal Marquette Hit-and-Run

The man accused of being the driver in the fatal hit-and-run accident in Marquette Wednesday night will be arraigned either Monday or sometime today.
Marquette City Police arrested the suspect, a 30-year-old Gwinn man, on Saturday after detectives interviewed him.
The accident happened shortly before 10:30 pm on July 4th at the intersection of South Front Street and Genesee Street.
42-year-old Karin LaChapell and her husband, 39-year-old Bryan LaChapell, both of Marquette, were crossing South Front on their way to Lake Superior to watch the city’s fireworks display.
A car headed toward Harvey hit them and drove away.
Karin LaChapell died from her injuries on Thursday.
Bryan LaChapell was released from Marquette General on Friday.
Police want to thank residents for the numerous tips they received — they say the tips helped in the arrest.
