Survey says drivers prefer to drive themselves

ANN ARBOR — Even with driverless technology advancing, most Americans still prefer to drive themselves.

That’s according to a recent follow-up study by researchers at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute. Forty-six percent of the over 600 people surveyed voiced preference for full control while driving. Almost forty percent preferred partially self-driving cars, and only sixteen percent would rather use a completely automated automobile.

Nearly all respondents said they would like controls available to take over even in a fully self-driving car. This is the second year the institute has done this survey.
