LANSING — The highest court in the state is looking for the public’s input on some upcoming guidelines.
The Michigan Supreme Court published the first set of proposed standards for appointed counsel on Monday. The standards were developed by the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission, which was formed as part of Public Act 93 of 2013.
The standards aim to address problems with provision of adequate appointed counsel to those who need it. They include training and education, the use of investigation and experts, and other aspects.
