Superior Hills students sing in the holidays

MARQUETTE — More Marquette area elementary school students did their part to get the community into the holiday spirit Tuesday.

Kids from Superior Hills Elementary began their holiday programs Tuesday morning with some music from the kindergarten, developmental kindergarten and first grade classes. The school has put on programs like this for 22 years, but this year, a pair of new teachers has taken over the task of putting them together.

“We’ve got an outstanding, energetic team that put it together — Mr. Morrison and Ms. Juday — and they are just having a great job with the kids,” Superior Hills principal Mike Woodard said. “If you come and watch it, you’ll see how much fun it is because you just feel the energy. That’s what’s melting the snow outside, by the way.”

“It’s been wonderful. It’s been a wild ride, and I have enjoyed every minute of it, and so have the kids,” physical education, music and technology teacher Sarah Juday said.

“It’s been going well so far, but today is the day, and we’re going to see how all of the practice has paid off,” specials teacher Tom Morrison said.

All of that practice meant that for some, it wasn’t necessarily the first time they’d heard the holiday tunes.

“I’ve been hearing from the mothers that they are hearing the songs all day at home, and I wake up in the middle of the night with the songs stuck in my head as well,” Morrison added.

In addition to song and dance, students also told fun winter jokes, and the walls of the gymnasium were decorated with holiday art from each grade. Second and third graders got to join in on the festivities at their program in the afternoon.
