MARQUETTE – Disney’s most popular musical is coming to the stage via the Lake Superior Youth Theater Group.

“Mary Poppins” which has won seven Tony Awards and delighted audiences on Broadway with more than 2,500 performances opens tonight at the Forest Roberts Theater with unforgettable songs.

And the exciting performances don’t stop at being supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. The tale of Mary Poppins is one everyone can enjoy and this performance with more than fifty kids participating will be full of unexpected surprises along with plenty of song, dance and acrobatics.

“Just all the special effects that LSYT does so well,” said Lake Superior Youth Theater actress Maitri White. “The flying and all of the wonderful lighting and must so many super cool things that take it from being a regular youth theater show into something that is truly spectacular.”

With such elaborate staging and dozens of kids performing, there was a job for everyone as not all kids had to be front and center.

“My character is the Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious lady so she is kind of crazy and she is a magical character. It’s one of the most technical youth theater performances ever done in Marquette,” said actress Mallory Grugin. “There is flying, jumping, flips, tricks and all the acting, singing and dancing is phenomenal.”
