Summertime jobs in the Keewenaw
Knowing that it’s not easy finding summertime work for teenagers in the Upper Peninsula, ABC 10’s Keweenaw Bureau Reporter Rick Allen has more on one opportunity of historical significance.
Young people in the Copper Country will have an opportunity to work part-time this summer while surrounding themselves in local history.
The Keweenaw National Historical Park in Calumet is accepting applications for summer work offered through the Youth Conservation Corps.
Applicants must be high school students between the ages of 15 and 18 years old.
The young people will work on conservation and cultural heritage related projects such as trail and roadside maintenance, museum collections, vegetation removal, historic stone ruin stabilization, painting, and other facility repair and clean-up projects.
“The students will be paid to work 40–hours a week for 8 weeks. But, space is limited. Only five to six positions are expected to be filled.”
The deadline to apply is May 24th. Applications are available at the park headquarters in Calumet and the positions will be filled using a random drawing on May 27th.
