LANSING — Ontario is supporting the Michigan Agency for Energy’s request to study the benefits of electric transmission between the U.P. and the Canadian province.

Governor, Rick Snyder asked the Mid-continent Independent System Operator, or MISO, to study both the short and long–term benefits. The hope is to examine the impact of interconnections that can move Michigan toward an adaptable, reliable, affordable, and environmentally friendly future in energy.

The MAE, alongside Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator, stand ready to provide support to assist MISO in the study. If all goes smoothly, the study could lead to reduced electric rates on both sides of the border.
