Student injured when bus collides with pick-up truck

One student was injured after a school bus collided with a pick–up truck in Gogebic County Thursday night.

A Hurley, Wisconsin school bus was returning its volleyball team from Wakefield and was driving westbound on U.S. 2 in Bessemer when it hit a pick–up truck, driven by 18–year–old Nicholas Obradovich of Wakefield.

The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department says Obradovich was attempting to cross U.S. 2 from Sophie Street.  The driver of the bus, 28-year-old Sabrina Nelmark of Gile, Wisconsin, was unable to avoid the collision.

One 15-year-old student was transported to Aspirus Grandview Hospital for the treatment of injuries and was later released.  No other injuries were reported.

Obradovich was cited for failure to yield.

Troopers from the Wakefield Post of the Michigan State Police and Beacon Ambulance assisted at the scene.
