Strut your stuff during Marquette’s Turkey Trot
MARQUETTE — With Thanksgiving only a week away, people across the Upper Peninsula are getting ready for turkey.
Orchestra and business club students at Marquette Senior High School are getting ready for something a little different.
The groups are sponsoring the Marquette Turkey Trot, an annual fundraising fun run held on Thanksgiving. Students have designed t-shirts and organized the event to benefit the orchestra, and to help a student from Negaunee pay for medical and travel expenses incurred after suffering a stroke. The course begins at Marquette Senior High School and ends at Presque Isle.
“They do a lap around the Medical Center following a bike path,” said MSHS Orchestra Student Perry Truscon. “People can take their dogs. It’s either a 5K or 10K.”
While there are prizes, many participate in the Turkey Trot simply for the fun of it.
“There’s fun little trophies. There’s some goodie bags – stuff that will make you laugh and that will make you smile,” Truscon added. “It’s fun to cheer people on and to see people running and knowing that they’re working up an appetite for that big turkey at home.”
