Stelzer named Player of the Week (Again)
BAY CITY, Mich. — For the fourth time this season, Michigan Tech’s Ben Stelzer has been named GLIAC North Division Player of the Week. The senior guard averaged 26.3 points in three games last week.
Stelzer nearly single-handedly pulled Tech back from a 16-point deficit vs. Northern Michigan last Monday (Feb. 2) with a career-high 37 points. He hit nine 3-pointers in the game including six in the final 6:30. The 6-1 guard scored 13 points in a 68-60 win at league-leading Ferris State on Thursday (Feb. 5), then went for 29 points in a 71-60 win at Grand Valley State on Saturday (Feb. 7).
Stelzer’s five made threes at GVSU gave him 338 for his career, breaking Tech’s record for 3-point field goals. The game also saw Stelzer move up two spots into eighth on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,589 career points.
Every month this season, Stelzer has earned a GLIAC Player of the Week nod. The others were Nov. 24, Dec. 17 and Jan. 26.
Michigan Tech holds a record of 15-6 overall and 12-5 in GLIAC play with five games left on its schedule. The Huskies play their final two regular season home games Thursday (Feb. 12) and Saturday (Feb. 14) vs. Hillsdale and Saginaw Valley State, respectively.
