NEGAUNEE — Most people are anticipating Independence Day weekend, so local police want to remind the public to stay alert in case of any threats.

Michigan State Police say that right now there are no threats to Michigan, but they also say that people should watch for suspicious behavior and activities. Recent threats and terror–related incidents in Asia, Africa and Europe are reminders that it’s important to stay alert.

Officials say being vigilant is as simple as paying more attention to where you are, recognizing suspicious behaviors and knowing what to do if you see anything suspicious. Police say some indicators of suspicious behavior include unattended objects, a strong odor, vehicles that seem out of place or even just exposed wiring and other abnormalities.

For emergencies always dial 9-1-1. For non-emergency situations and to report suspicious behaviors or activities, call 1-855-MICH-TIP (855-642-4847).
