State Supreme Court Campaign Visit
One of the candidates for the Michigan Supreme Court later this year is visiting the Upper Peninsula today.
Judge Connie Marie Kelley is on the bench in the Family Division of Wayne County Circuit Court.
She made a campaign stop in Marquette this morning, visiting county Democratic headquarters.
Judge Kelley says many candidates for statewide office ignore the Upper Peninsula, but she says she and her team wanted to make sure they visited.
The Michigan Supreme Court has seven justices who are each elected to eight–year terms.
Three seats are open at the end of the year.
Judge Kelley believes her experience with family law will be needed.
She says Justice Marilyn Kelly, an expert in family law, will retire from the court at the end of the year, and she says family law affects more people in Michigan than any other area of the law.
Judge Kelley visited Sault Ste. Marie yesterday and stopped at the U.P. State Fair in Escanaba this afternoon.
