State Senate Leader Withholding Funding Bills

Some more areas of state government now have money to work with for the fiscal year.

Governor Jennifer Granholm has signed funding bills for those areas.

But she says the state Senate Majority Leader also needs to send her 6 other bills that he’s withholding.

The governor has signed funding bills for K-through-12 education, corrections and transportation.

As we mentioned in UGN News on Friday, the education bill includes cuts.

State Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop is holding onto some other bills that cover things like the State Police, higher education and community health.

Granholm says she’s perplexed about that.

Bishop has said he’s trying to avoid vetoes on parts of the bills that could lead to tax increases.

But Granholm says if she doesn’t receive the bills, the budget can’t get done.
