State Police Preparing for Post Closures

In just two weeks, Michigan State Police posts across the state will be re–aligned to save some taxpayer money.

The state announced plans to close 21 posts throughout the state, including 6 in the Upper Peninsula, such as the Munising and Stephenson Posts.

But State Police 8th District commander Capt. Myles McCormack says the changes will not mean fewer officers on the job.

The re–alignment will actually include increased road patrols, but closing the posts will save the state close to $21 million.

The changes will take place on October 1st when the new fiscal year begins.
