State GOP Chair Tours U.P.

The head of Michigan’s GOP makes a pair of stops in the U.P. to help out a former state lawmaker who wants to return to Lansing.

Michigan Republican Party chair Ron Weiser visited Escanaba this morning and L’Attitude in Marquette this afternoon.

He thinks 2010 is an opportunity for Republicans statewide and he wants to help fellow GOP members take advantage of it.

Weiser says Republicans haven’t had a chance to represent the U.P. in a long time and that may end this fall.

He’s joining Tom Casperson of Escanaba in several early campaign swings.

Casperson was a state rep before being term-limited out of office.

Weiser says the state doesn’t have an attractive business climate, and it’s causing the state to lose jobs and people to other states and other countries.

Casperson is running for the State Senate seat that Democrat Mike Prusi of Ishpeming currently holds.

Prusi is in the same situation Casperson was in 2 years ago — unable to run again because of term limits.
