ISHPEMING — The MHSAA Division 7 State Champions are back home tonight, but not before a scene of red and blue lights, cheering fans, and honking horns along the way.

From Saint Ignace to Ishpeming, the Hematites received police and fire escorts from towns and cities across the U.P. Fans braved the cold weather to congratulate the champs. Ishpeming arrived back at the high school just after 10:30 p.m. The Hematites departed for Detroit around 5:00 a.m. Friday.

Ishpeming defeated Pewamo-Westphalia 22-16 in the Division 7 title game Saturday Morning at Ford Field, giving the Hematites their 3rd state title in 4 years.

There’s a celebration planned for the team Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at the high school gym.
