St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Giveaway

The holiday spirit was evident at the St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Giveaway today for families in need in Marquette and Gwinn.

Donations were available for hundreds of families who signed up for Christmas assistance. They got to select from toys as well as clothing items. Each family had a Santa’s Helper to help out with the shopping.

“I can’t even describe what it’s like; we were in tears this morning,” St. Vincent de Paul Marquette store manager Stephanie Bordeaux said. “We are so blessed to be in such a community that has people who are struggling themselves and still want to help and provide for people who need more than they do.”

“To have someone come in and say, ‘well, I have so many kids’, and they say, ‘I need this, this and this’. We let them take certain things, and it’s just wonderful to see them getting what they need. It’s not fun to be alone and have nothing for Christmas,” volunteer Jenette Herrlinger said.

The families also receive a Christmas dinner complete with a turkey and all the fixings.
St. Vincent de Paul staff members say a very special thanks goes out to Toys for Tots, the Eagle Mine, Jilbert Dairy, Super One Foods, Feeding America and the community to make all they do possible.
