Speed and alcohol contributing factors in Houghton County rollover accident

Investigators believe speed and alcohol were contributing factors in a rollover accident in Houghton County Monday afternoon.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 12:10 p.m. on Tapiola Road, one mile south of Tapiola, when a 1998 Ford driven by Tawyna Norback attempted to pass two northbound vehicles in her lane. Police say the 40-year-old Covington resident lost control of her truck during the pass and slid out on the roadway before rolling over into a nearby ditch. Norback was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the truck as a result. She suffered several severe injuries in the tumble, and was taken to both Portage Hospital and Marquette General after being treated on scene by the Otter Lake First Responders and Mercy Ambulance personnel.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office also received assistance from the Hurontown Fire and Rescue Team and Superior Service Towing.
