Sorority raises money for children with life-threatening illnesses

HOUGHTON — If you’re having dinner in downtown Houghton tonight, you have a chance to help out a great cause.

Delta Zeta, a sorority at Michigan Tech, along with Joey’s Seafood and Grill are hosting a charity fundraiser for The Painted Turtle Children’s Camp. The camp is for children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses.

DZ philanthropy chair Chelsea Dean says the charity supports a very worthy cause.

“They can go completely free of charge and they get to go to just be a kid,” she said. “They get to go and forget that they are sick and they go for about a week.  And it’s out in California so they can go all year-round and they don’t have to stop for the winter.”

The fundraiser ends at 9 p.m. Customers who mention the charity to their server will have 20% of their bill donated to the camp.
