Snyder signs bill eliminating straight-ticket voting

LANSING — A bill that makes some significant changes to ballots is now Michigan law.

Senate Bill 13 was signed by Governor Rick Snyder today. The bill eliminates the option of selecting a straight-party ticket.

In a statement sent out by his office, Governor Snyder said, “It’s time to choose people over politics.”

Opponents of the bill are concerned that the new law will create longer lines at the polls. Snyder is asking the Legislature to enact secure no-reason absentee voting to help alleviate these concerns.
