Snyder Pleased by Approval of the Removal of Income Tax Exemption for Public Pensions

Governor Rick Snyder announced today that he is pleased by Michigan’s Supreme Court ruling that the removal of the income tax exemption for public pensions is constitutional.

Snyder stated that “The removal will provide for the long–term structural stability of the state’s budget while minimizing the impact on current retiree’s and seniors.”

The court agreed that the equal treatment of public and private pensions and safeguards for older taxpayers are appropriate and constitutional.
