Snyder Continues U.P. Visit

Governor Rick Snyder continued his tour of the U.P. this morning with a breakfast at the Landmark Inn.

The breakfast gave area officials a question-and-answer session with the governor.

The mayors of Marquette, Ishpeming and Negaunee, along with a few other city employees, had a chance to talk about local issues.

Both the governor and Escanaba State Senator Tom Casperson provided feedback.

Some of the issues that were discussed include lightening restrictions on revenue sharing, improving communications between the local and state governments, and various issues related to the Kennecott Eagle Mine and County Road 595.

At this hour, he is presenting a “Re-Inventing Michigan” award.

Tomorrow, Snyder and Michigan Economic Development Corporation CEO Mike Finney will attend a breakfast meeting with Northern Michigan University president Dr. Les Wong and other university officials at the DeVos Art Museum.

Later in the morning, the governor, Finney and Casperson will tour the Empire Mine.

Tomorrrow afternoon, the group will tour Pioneer Surgical and host a roundtable discussion.

And tomorrow evening, Snyder will hold a town hall meeting at Bay College to discuss plans to re-invent Michigan.

He will answer questions from residents.
