Snowy conditions cause fatal ORV accident in Houghton County

DUNCAN TOWNSHIP — A 74-year-old Mackinaw City man is dead after losing control of his ORV on a snow-covered trail in southern Houghton County Monday morning.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office says Henry Cooley was baiting deer and was driving down a hill on his ORV just off of Federal Forest Highway #16 near Kenton around 9:30.  He lost control on the slippery hill and his ORV tipped over and rolled on top of him.

Cooley was pronounced dead on scene.

Sonoco Ambulance medical responders of Ewen, Federal Forest personnel, and the Duncan Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
