CHIPPEWA COUNTY — Three separate snowmobile accidents happened over the weekend, leaving one dead and one injured.
Officials from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office report that the first accident happened Friday around 9:00 a.m. on Trail No. 8 in Paradise. The accident investigator found that the driver of the snowmobile, 43-year-old Eric S. Parish of Lincoln, Michigan, failed to negotiate a corner and ran into stumps and trees resulting in his death.
The second accident happened on Saturday around 3:25 p.m. on Trail No. 452, also near Paradise. The driver failed to negotiate a corner and ran into a group of trees. The driver of the snowmobile reportedly had extensive injuries and was taken to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital for treatment.
Officials say the third snowmobile accident happened sometime over the weekend on a trail near 6 Mile Road and M-221. The driver in this case reportedly ran into a utility pole causing damage to the sled. There were no injuries reported, and the driver was cited for not having his required snowmobile trail permit.
Officials from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office say that speed was a factor in each of these incidents. They would like to remind snowmobilers to drive at a safe speed and be courteous to others on the trail.
