CALUMET — One man has been pronounced dead after a snowmobile accident Tuesday afternoon.
Michigan State Police Troopers from the Calumet Post were called to the scene at around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Christopher Scott Houchin, 21, of Salem, WI was traveling south on Trail #3 near Copper City when he left the trail and struck a tree.
Houchin was transported by Mercy Ambulance to UP Health System-Portage and pronounced dead. An MSP Accident investigator was called to the scene and the incident is still under investigation. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor.
The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Department, Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Laurium Police Department, MI-DNR Law Enforcement Divivion, Calumet First Responders, Keweenaw Trail Service and Superior Service all assisted on the scene.
