UPDATE: Names released in fatal snowmobile accident

UPDATE — Saturday, January 30, 2016 8:00 p.m.

Police have released the name of the victim killed in a snowmobile vs. truck accident Friday night in Schoolcraft County.

Michael Orlando, 59, of Fenton, MI attempted to cross M-94 at the snowmobile trail crossing known as N. Haywire Grade, when he was struck by a pickup truck. Police say the driver of the pickup truck, Traci Prunick of Munising, was unable to avoid hitting Orlando.

Orlando was taken to Munising Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Prunick and the passenger in the pickup were not injured in the accident.


 

SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY — Troopers with the Michigan State Police are investigating a fatal snowmobile accident that occurred Friday night in Schoolcraft County.

The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. on M-94 at the snowmobile trail crossing known as N. Haywire Grade. A snowmobile trying to cross M-94 drove into the path of a pickup truck.

The snowmobile rider was taken to Munising Memorial Hospital, where they were pronounced dead due to injuries they sustained in the crash. The driver and passenger in the pickup truck were not injured.

Police will release the name of the victim once next of kin is notified.
