Snowmobile accident in Gogebic Co.

White-out conditions and heavy snow were the causes of a snowmobile and car accident in Ironwood Township Wednesday afternoon.

The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department says the accident happened at around 1 p.m. on U.S. 2 near Jackson Road.

A snowmobile driven by Terry Field, 57, of Wellington, Illinois was struck by an eastbound vehicle driven by Matt Wester, 23, of Ironwood.  Field was attempting to cross U.S. 2 on snowmobile trail No. 160.

Field was transported to Aspirus Grandview Hospital with a severe leg injury.  Wester was not injured in the collision.  The snowmobile and vehicle were towed from the scene.

The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Beacon Ambulance and Ironwood Public Safety.
