Snow Shoveling & Heart Health

With the arrival of the snow comes the burden of snow removal.

Not only is it a necessary part of living in the U.P., but it can be dangerous.

For many people, the only physical activity they get during the winter months is shoveling snow.

Cardiologist Dr. John Pap says the activity can be very hard on your heart, and if you aren’t careful or aware of heart issues, snow removal could cause serious medical problems.

He says that when removing snow, it’s important to pace yourself.

If you start to feel lightheaded or feel any pain in your chest, stop shoveling and immediately seek medical attention.
