Smoke in U.P. from Canadian fires

Many central and western Upper Michigan communities developed hazy and smoky conditions late this morning.

Officials in Marquette County say it is neither a weather system nor a local fire. In fact, smoke from forest fires in Ontario has drifted across Lake Superior into Upper Michigan.

Authorities say the smoke and haze will affect parts of central and western Upper Michigan.

They warn that the conditions may reduce visibility on the lake and on roadways. Further, people with respiratory issues may be sensitive to the reduced air quality.
