Slow Snowmobile Season

You can’t really participate in winter sports without snow, and while many popular cold weather activities have managed to do OK this season, one in particular has taken a hit.

The snowmobile season would generally be well underway by now.

However, with the increasingly mild weather conditions, many trails are covered with less than 6 inches of snow.

Don Britton, vice-chair of Hiawatha Trails, says that in his experience, the snow does usually arrive by now if we haven’t had it in abundance and the season will pick up.

He says it’s just a matter of being patient.

Hiawatha Trails maintains a number of the snowmobile trails in the area.

A majority of the grooming is funded through the sale of trail permits.

Everyone who uses the trial is required to buy a permit.
