Skandia man hit by drunk driver backing out of driveway

A 61-year-old man is being treated for internal injuries after he was hit by a truck that was backing out of a driveway.

The incident happened around 5:00 p.m. Thursday night in the 100 block of Ingalls Road in Skandia. At that time, a 56-year-old Skandia man backed his 2006 Chevrolet Trail Blazer out of his driveway, striking a pedestrian in the process.

Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash and determined that the driver of the vehicle was operating under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested and charged with Operating While Impaired – Causing Serious Injury. He is now lodged in Marquette County Jail where he will remain until his arraignment.

The pedestrian who was injured in the accident was transported to Marquette General Hospital by their EMS division. The name of the victim and his status is being withheld until his family is notified. The name of the suspect will not be released until his arraignment.
