Silver Creek Church ready to open new thrift shop

HARVEY — Residents in Marquette County will soon have a new place to find great deals on clothes, shoes, and household items.

Silver Creek Church in Harvey is getting ready to open its thrift store, Sliver Creek Thrift, October 1.

The church has a long history of reaching out to the community through various events, and thought opening a thrift store was the next step to helping the residents of Marquette County.  The proceeds from sales will go to the church’s outreach program.

“What we’re doing is putting a committee together and we’re going to pray to see what the community needs, also talking to agencies and asking them what is the biggest need in Harvey area and the surrounding Marquette area, and really wanting to provide outreach programs for the community that’s the best fit,” Silver Creek Thrift store director Jennifer Prus said.

Even though the store hasn’t opened its doors just yet, it has already helped a few families get some essential items.

“We’ve had three families that have had house fires come in and we were able to equip them with new items, and then we were also able to equip a family who were homeless with new items to help get them back on their feet.  And that really is the heart of this ministry here,” Prus said.

Silver Creek Thrift has its grand opening October 1, and people can drop off donations starting that day as well.

The store will be open from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays.  The store is also looking for volunteers, and if you’d like to volunteer you can contact the church at (906) 249-1715 or the store (906) 273-2473.
