Sheriff warns of dangerous conditions at Grand Island Ice Caves

GRAND ISLAND — The rising temperatures have created potentially dangerous conditions near an outdoor attraction in Alger County.

Alger County Sheriff Robert Hughes is warning that the recent warm and sunny days have created conditions that make the ice at the Grand Island Ice Caves dangerous to approach. He says there is a threat of falling ice near the caves and slushy conditions are developing on the ice covering the lake.

Experienced locals are warning that it is unsafe to get close to these areas.
